3 Things to Avoid During a Meeting

Writer: Alex van den HeeverAlex van den Heever

Whether you are in motion graphics, videography, video production, copywriting, graphic design, or if you have any freelancing or creative business, here are 3 things to avoid during a meeting;

1. Don’t start with a sales pitch. Have you ever walked into a store and were immediately approached by someone trying to sell you something? This makes you feel pressured to buy something, or just uncomfortable.

2. Quoting before you understand what’s expected. You should understand the full scope of work, and be able to assess exactly what you need to do and what value the end product brings to the client. If you do not understand the full scope - you can easily quote too little, which undersells yourself and your work, or too much which can intimidate the client.

3. Not assessing the problem correctly. You should learn more about your client and what their problem is. You should be able to offer your client a solution to their problem, if you cannot provide a solution, then you can make suggestions on alternative routes. There is a reason why this potential client is meeting with you, and it’s your job to find out why and solve their problem.
