Why pre-production takes longer than the rest of the production

We consider pre-production to be the most important part of the whole production and is often the make or break of any great film or video.

During the pre-production phase, we have meetings with you, the client, to establish the main goals and objections for the videos. For example, is this video going to international clientele, or is it for local markets, where will this video be showing, will short form or long form content be the best way forward – all these standard questions allow us to effectively understand your brand, product or service, and through having these discussions, we are able to establish the best route forward, and pave the way for the rest of the production.

Clients may come to us with a concept and a deadline, sometimes forgetting about all of the planning and logistics involved before production. Pre-production can take days, weeks, months or sometimes even years to plan perfectly.

So, what do we actually do during pre-production besides finding out the target audience, goals and objectives:

- The creative direction for the film or video

- Storyboarding narratives, and scripting

- Location scouting

- Organise filming permits if applicable

- Talent, studio and equipment sourcing

- Production schedules

- Shot lists, and the list goes on

If we nail the pre-production phase, then production and post-production will be an absolute breeze. We take every step of the production process seriously and we keep an open line of communication with you through all the phases.
