What is Video FOMO?

Writer: Alex van den HeeverAlex van den Heever

A lot of people come to us and say; “WE NEED VIDEO” and after a few conversations, we learnt that video was not the solution and found that they wanted video because “everyone else is doing it”. This is video FOMO.

FOMO is an acronym for Fear of Missing Out. This applies to our industry when someone within a company may see similar companies posting videos and think, "Hmmm, we could do with something like this", but sometimes there are other avenues that should be ventured through first.

If video is not the way forward, we will make alternative suggestions to our clients, this could be using a photographer, graphic designer, motion graphics, upping your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) game on your website, etc.

We will not try to sell a client a service if we know they don’t need it.

Speaking to the creators here - If you guide your client to the correct solution you will gain their trust and respect. They will learn that you actually do care about them and their business, and you're not just there to take their money. And besides, do you really want to be like that frustrating sales person trying to sell someone insurance?

Back to the clients - if you intend on making any content in the future, make sure it is for the right reason or part of a strategy.
