...This might sound like a scam but hear me out!
No one likes working for free. Everything takes time, from planning to final delivery. And time is money.
Here’s what you do - during initial meetings with the client, you will be talking about money early, and tell the client that a 50% deposit is required before staring on the project. So, once a quote gets approved, you can remind your client and say, “ we request an upfront deposit of 50% to get the project started, we require this with all our clients to ensure our overheads are covered throughout the duration of the project”. Depending on the size of the project, the deposit can also be used for gear rental, venue hiring, booking the talent and where needed whatever you may be outsourcing.
Sometimes projects can get stalled due to a delay on the client's side, this can often result in the project losing steam. Paying a deposit will add a sense of urgency.
Quite often, we actually get paid in full.
This ties in with our previous post about “why talking about money early is important”
